ARTISTIC DIRECTOR: KEMI LO
Kemi Lo is currently in her last year of school for a B.F.A in music, studying at York University in Toronto. Her musical endeavours include being a classical violinist, violist, choir/orchestral conductor, and composer. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Unitatis String Ensemble. Prior to this, she was the conductor of the Chinese Martyr Catholic Church Young Voices youth division for 4 years. She teaches music around the GTA and has guest spoken in various music schools. She was principal II for one and a half years at the York University Symphony Orchestra, as well as serving principal violist for one semester. She has guest played in many other orchestras with both the violin and the viola.
Born in Hong Kong, Kemi Lo immigrated to Canada at a very young age and has lived most of her life in Ontario. She started choir when she was very young, which lead her to start the violin at age 12, which eventually led her to start conducting at age 16. She studied the violin under the late Jacques Israelievitch; violin and viola under Mark Skazinetsky; and conducting under Dr. Mark Chambers, and Dr. Lisette Canton from York University. She is currently studying conducting under Nurhan Arman, Conductor and Artistic Director of Sinfonia Toronto.
